i know you didn’t think it would ever happen, but voila. i give you… the novelty of my new journal!
today i went down to the farmers’ market, which is notable because i’ve never shopped at one before. back in those days when my mother was responsible for my activities, we only ever visited places like antique shops and received impromptu botany lessons as we played in the fields of flowers she was studying. that may sound exciting, but for me as a 4-to-8 year old, those activities drained my will to live.
we never did do the fahmahs’ mahkat thing, though. and so, contrary to my intense (and fulfilled) desire to never enter another antique shop or spend hours trying to create fun while studying a field, my low-lying desire to exercise my own free will and go to a farmers’ market remained unrealized until today.
today i actually had fun. i wandered around and found the vegetable stands – and vendors – that most appealed to me. i’m on a soup-making kick (which you can soon read about in my happy dinner diary) so i bought: 4 gorgeous leeks, 4 potatoes, 3 onions, a bunch of really cute carrots, an enormous turnip, an equally enormous head of garlic, and for other uses, a bag of salad greens & 4 adorable red peppers. i got a kick out of handing over 50 cents for a given item rather than slogging through the grocery store and swiping my debit card and wondering HOW did i manage to spend so much money, did i put an entire cow in my cart? you’re probably bored with my naivety on this topic. please forgive.
i spent $18 which i think was a pretty durn good deal. although, since i’m pretty new to the whole vegetable thing (be they farmers’ or generic super- market veggies), i’m not exactly positive on the cost-saving benefits of the farmers’ market. the quality, however, was no contest.
and so went the deflowering of my farmers’ market virginity. next time maybe i’ll take some pictures. i’m sure you can’t wait to see the exotic and foreign vegetables we only have here in my town. i’m equally sure that the vendors would love my presence as a tourist.
oh. um, the fur was pushing it. i can’t stop writing things in threes (see blog urls) so i thought i’d throw the fur in to relate the fact that i (occasionally) intend to talk about puppies in here. also, i couldn’t think of anything relating to knitting starting with an ‘f’, except for frogging, which i am not currently planning on. so the knits and knots will have to come later.
soon you will see not only some of my knitting, but also a picture of my beloved (and departed) baby pup, along with the spotted creature i currently live with.
